Vietnam pursues the nuclear option

Vietnam's National Assembly, in November 2009, approved a government resolution to build two nuclear power plants totaling 4,000 MW at a cost of $11.3 billion. Vietnam is the second southeast Asian country after Thailand to announce plans to develop nuclear power plants.rnThe National Assembly web site said the nuclear power plants would be built in the south central province of Ninh Thuan. The first 2,000 MW plant would be in the Phuoc Dinh commune and the second in the Vinh Hai commune. After the National Assembly's approval, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has the final say on whether or not to proceed with the nuclear power program.
