Starting from late April, Russia has been experiencing severe gasoline shortages in a number of local markets. Domestic retail prices for Ron-92 gasoline jumped to over Rb31/liter ($1.I/liter) in some locales, up nearly 30% from March. Drivers and the media are wondering how domestically-produced gasoline in Russia, the world's largest oil producer, can be more expensive than in the heavily import-dependent US.
