PDVSA to begin gasoline production soon to ease domestic gasoline shortage.

According to officials at Venezuela's state-owned oil company PDVSA, gasoline production should resume around Aug. 22-27 after two CDUs were restarted at the 940K-b/d Paraguana Refinery Complex on Aug. 12. Currently, Paraguana is processing up to 135K b/d of light and medium grades at the 635K-b/d Amuay refinery's 85K-b/d CDU and the 305K-b/d Cardon refinery's 50K-b/d CDU but is not producing gasoline at the moment due to downstream units, such as an FCCU, remaining offline. According to a manager at the Cardon refinery, restarting the plant's FCCU could be delayed even though repairs to the unit are nearly complete. Repairs on the alkylation, hydrodesulfurization, hydrotreatment, and naphtha hydrotreater units at the refinery are expected to be finished by Sept. Venezuela is hoping that the refinery repairs will help ease the country's dire fuel shortage by H2 Sept. Meanwhile, repairs of the 61.5K-b/d FCCU and distillation unit at the 140K-b/d El Palito refinery are ongoing.
