China re-enters market

A leap in domestic coal prices was the catalyst for Chinese buyers to return to the spot market in meaningful numbers in April after an absence of at least six months. Platts assessed its FOB Kalimantan 1 (5,900 kcal/kg GAR) daily 90-day price at $100.50/mt in the third week of April, up from $98.25/mt the previous week, and its FOB Kalimantan 2 (5,000 kcal/kg GAR) at $85/mt up from $73.25/mt, a sharp increase of $11.75/mt.
