Japan's post-nuclear energy mix

Japan's nuclear disaster may well prompt a transformation of the country's energy mix. Pre-disaster plans were heavily dependent on a large expansion of nuclear power, but this now looks unlikely. Although Japanese utilities will turn first to thermal plants, particularly gas-fired generation, wind and solar are the quickest and perhaps only options for future capacity expansion that will not erode further Japan's security of energy supply.
