Brent strengthens in August

Despite weak economic growth in both developing and developed economies, international physical crude marker Dated Brent saw further price gains in August. Dated Brent rose from $105.76/barrel end-July to reach $115.97 August 24, having moved just over $116/b August 21. Front-month crude futures on NYMEX rose from $88.06/b to $96.15/b over the same period, a gain of $8.09/b in comparison with the physical Brent increase of $10.21/b, widening the differential between the two benchmarks.
