Spanish coal supply hit by strikes

Spanish Industry Minister Jose Manuel Soria said in June that the country will continue to implement a strategy that could see all of the country's coal mines closed by 2019. Under a sector plan approved by Spain's previous government, all mines that have received subsidies or state aid will be closed by the start of that year, Soria told reporters in Madrid. Soria said his ministry was prepared to "sit down and negotiate," but warned that the only alternatives would be "closure or a repayment of the subsidies received."
