Baltic LNG project sees signs of resuscitation

Russia s state-owned Gazprom may revive its plans to build an LNG plant in the Baltic port of Primorsk, Russian daily Kommersant reported in May, citing a source familiar with the matter. Russia's Summa Group, which co-owns the port, may provide land for the plant, the source added. Speaking at an event in West Siberia, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said the company was looking into a "completely new" LNG project, but gave no further details. Gazprom has for some time considered constructing a 5 million-7.2 million mt/year LNG plant in the Baltic region. However, the idea was apparently abandoned in 2008 to focus on other projects.
