French renewables overpower fossil fuels

Although a relatively small part of France’s nucleardominatedrnpower sector, electricity generated from fossilrnfuels plummeted in May to a level not seen since 1955,rnwhile renewables output hit record highs, a PlattsrnPowerVision analysis of data from the country’srnTransmission System Operator RTE shows. Hourly fossilrnfuel output averaged a record low of 953 MW in May,rnwith total monthly output from coal, gas and oil tumblingrn41% year-on-year to 0.7 TWh.
