The European Commission has started brokering a deal for post-March Russian gas supplies to Ukraine as part of efforts to ensure undisrupted Russian gas supplies via Ukraine to the EU next winter. Russia and Ukraine signed the current EU-brokered winter package supply deal last October but it expires March 31.rnAfter that the terms revert to Ukraine’s 2009 long-term supply contract with Russia, which both parties are disputing at the Stockholm arbitration court. The Stockholm court is not expected to rule until late 2016, after hearings in February, and the Commission is keen to broker a new package that will cover the entire period until then.
