US Paris withdrawal blow to transition ambitions

US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on Climate Change has been met by reaffirmations by other nations of their continued commitment to it. However, the US absence from multilateral fora in support of climate change is likely to encourage lobbies whose interests are threatened, while the IEA has reiterated that current progress towards a clean energy transition remains inadequate. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has indicated it may interfere in state level policies, but is at odds with a more progressive view of new energy technologies espoused by the US military.
