The Nigerian government says it has launched a comprehensive clean-up program for the Niger Delta region, which has suffered years of pollution from oil spills. The move is part of plans to curb unrest and reduce production outages resulting from sabotage and theft. Nigerian crude output was estimated at 1.65 million b/d in January, according to S&P Global Platts survey, up 210,000 b/d from December. The country was producing close to 2 million b/d at the beginning of 2016.
