Global seaborne coal trade to grow by 5% in 2018: Noble

Powered by Asian demand, the global seaborne thermalcoal market is expected to grow by around 48 million mt or5% from 2017 to touch 974 million mt in 2018, trading houseNoble Group said in February. The market could find itselfshort by about 10 million mt, it added.“2018 will be another strong year for the coal marketalong with most other commodities,” Rodrigo Echeverri,head of hard commodities analysis, Noble ResourcesInternational, said at the Coaltrans conference in Goa. Givenburgeoning demand, it will be challenging on the supplyside to match the current appetite for thermal coa, he said.“Overall the market looks under-supplied. There is somesupply response. But [it is] nowhere near enough to eclipsethe demand-driven rally,” Echeverri said.
