An 18.4% slump in industrial sector electricity consumption in the first two months of the year has had the side-effect of boosting renewable energy's share of overall consumption to 30% for the period, compared to an average 18% in 2008, gridco Red Electrica de Espana (REE) said.rnThe drop in consumption by industry peaked at 28% in the industrial Basque Country, says REE, and registered 21% in neighboring Navarre, 19% in the Valencia region, and 15% in the Madrid region. Overall, this is the biggest fall in industrial energy consumption since 1997.
