Finland's industrial power demand fell by 7.1% in 2008 due to the economic recession, the decline increasing toward the end of the year, energy industries association Energiateollisuus said January 22.rnThe impact was particularly evident in the forestry sector, where consumption declined 10.9% in comparison to 1-2% falls in other industries, the association said.rnTotal Finnish electricity consumption dipped 3.8% to 86.9/TWh, the largest annual decline since the war years. In peacetime, electricity consumption has fallen by more than 3% only in 1956, the year of the General Strike, the association said.rnIn 2008 Energiateollisuus said industry represented 51% of total electricity consumption,rnhouseholds and agriculture almost 26%, and services and construction almost 20%.
