Ecotax privileges for energy intensive industry will be sharply reduced under a German cabinet decision to rubberstamp the draft Budget-Accompanying Law on September 1. Currently, all consumers have to pay tax on a basic volume of 25 MWh, or €512.5/year. The draft law raises the minimum amount to €2,500/year. Beyond the basic volume, manufacturing industry could, until now, generally benefit from relief of up to 95%/year for electricity consumed itself. This is to fall to 73%.
