Oman Oil 'bidding for REE'

Oman Oil Company is reported to be one of four candidates in talks with the Lisbon government on the purchase of up to 51% of Redes Energeticas Nacionais, Portugal's national grid operator, a stake valued at about €560 million. The other candidates are understood to be Britain's National Grid, Brookfield Asset Management and the State Grid Corporation of China. News of the bidders emerged as Moody's cut REN's credit rating to junk status reflecting previous downgrades of Portugal's sovereign debt and the company's exposure to Portugal's severe recession. According to Lisbon media reports, none of the four bidders is proposing to acquire more than 33% of REN, as this would require them to make full takeover bids under Portuguese law.
