Datteln decision due mid-2012

Regional planning authority Regionalverband Ruhr expects to present a new spatial planning document for the Emscher-Lippe region in summer 2012 that may or may not legitimize E.ON Kraftwerk's 1,055 MWe/2,400 MWth coal unit, currently under construction. In September 2009 the Higher Administrative Court ruled that the local development plan was invalid - some two years after construction at Datteln had begun. Munster's regional planning authorities decided in June that Regionalverband Ruhr should draw up a revision. A public hearing on comments made on the revision is due in April 2012. Opposition to the plant is led by several environmental groups. Around 4,000 signatures were collected from local inhabitants under a 'No to Datteln unit 4' campaign.
