Ccgt restrictions eased

The Swiss National Council has voted by a slim majority to relax legislation requiring the operator of a combined cycle gas plant in Switzerland to compensate 70% of CO2 emissions at home, increasing the allowance for compensation abroad to 50%. A spokesman for the Association of Swiss Electricity Companies (VSE) welcomed the decision as a step towards making it possible to build CCGTs in Switzerland. The VSE recently aligned itself on the government's long standing energy policy which holds that CCGTs should be accepted as a transitional solution towards a new policy based on renewables and energy saving.
