Skagerrak 4 seeks Eib loan

Norwegian gridco Statnett has applied for up to €200 million funding from the European Investment Bank towards the €400 million cost of the Skagerrak 4 cable, EIB records showed September 16. The project involves a monopolar HVDC link interconnecting Norway and Denmark across the Skagerrak strait, to include two terminal converter stations in Kristiansand (Norway) and Tjele (Denmark), 140-km of undersea cable and 102-km of land cable, the bank said. Its purpose is to allow more electricity trade between the Norwegian and the European continental markets - "essentially the markets in Denmark and Germany," the EIB said.
