Industry issues tax warning

Reaction at home and abroad to the government's energy reforms continues to grow. Some 17 Spanish industrial associations have published open letters to the government warning that additional taxes on power generation would be passed on to them, damaging industry's ability to compete internationally.On September 14 Industry and Energy Minister Jose Manuel Soria detailed proposals for a 6% flat rate tax on all generation sources; a new tax on the production of radioactive waste; a new tax on the disposal of radioactive waste; and a new royalty on hydropower.
