The energy industry is warning Alaskan legislators about the consequences of possible changes to oil and gas tax credits the state gives to E&P operators

The state is facing budget shortfalls with legislators now in special session looking at such options as changing the dividend most Alaskans receive each year. Lawmakers were told by the state Department of Revenue that it estimates that during the next fiscal year, the state will owe $825 million in credits to companies with no tax liability. According to state records, the production tax for the coming fiscal year will be about $54 million and $24 million for fiscal year 2018.
