UK loses carbon capture initiative

The failure of 2Co's Don Valley carbon capture and storage project to make it onto the UK's October 30 shortlist of four preferred demonstration schemes has caused consternation within the CCS sector.The absence of the project, earlier judged by the European Commission to offer the best value in Europe, "will lead to suspicions that the Treasury is pulling the strings and preventing the spending of serious sums of money," UK LibDem MEP Chris Davies said. "Decisions deferred are better than decisions denied, but the UK is the best placed country in Europe for cost-effective CCS development and it surely time we bit the bullet and got on with the job."
