Steag cleared to close Lunen units

German power plant operator Steag has been granted permission by transmission system operator Amprion to permanently close a twounit hard coal plant at its Lunen site totalling 500 MW by January 1. The generator said earlier this year that it no longer saw any economic prospects for hard coal-fired generating units 6 (150 MW) and 7 (350 MW) at Lunen, North Rhine-Westphalia.
