Vrbas hydro talks begin

The Bosnian Serb government has invited the HES Vrbas consortium to open talks on construction of a new hydropower plant on the Vrbas River near Banja Luka, following a two-year long blockade of the project.rnHES Vrbas, a consortium of Serbia's Gradjevinar and Slovenia's Viaduct, was awarded a 25-year Build, Operate, Transfer concession by the government in November 2004 for the 48.5-MW Krupa and 37.2-MW Banja Luka Niska run-of-river projects, but the project, which attracted protests from local environmentalist groups, was halted when the government failed to approve the initial project proposal.
