French nuclear regulator ASN critical of three-year decommissioning reports

French nuclear regulator ASN is concerned the country’s nuclear decommissioning costs are not being accounted for properly, it said in an August report. The regulator has summarized its assessment of mandatory threeyear reports from all relevant operators on the long-term costs of decommissioning and disposal of nuclear materials. The operators submitting reports range from large groups like EDF, Framatome, Orano and the CEA to small research and non-energy users of radioactive materials. In the case of EDF, the ASN said there were question marks on the way it was costing preparations for nuclear decommissioning. Similar criticism was levelled at the CEA, Framatome and Orano. The concerns about EDF related to post-operational costs, which by definition would not be defrayed by revenues.
