Polish day-ahead prices rose in week 4 thanks to lower windgeneration. Baseload day-ahead prices on the Polish Power Exchange(TGE) rose 3.7% to Zloty 212.91/MWh (Eur50.13/MWh) on January 23from Zloty 205.34/MWh a week earlier. Wind generation started theweek at extremely low levels and ended it with highs of between 2.3-2.5 GW. Mild weather continued with average temperatures in Warsawbetween 3-4 degrees above the seasonal norm on January 23-24.Poland’s forward curve dropped slightly tracking lower carbon, whichended its session January 23 down 26 euro cent at Eur24.75/mt. TheCal-21 contract fell 0.3% on week to Zloty 252.81/MWh January 23.Poland took advantage of maximum import capacity on the 488 MWLitPol link with Lithuania and the 600 MW SwePol link with Sweden.Capacity from Germany and the Czech Republic, which can be as highas 1.5 GW, was also fully utilized, as was the 200 MW available fromUkraine. Polish net electricity imports reached a record high of 10.6TWh in 2019, up 86% year on year, with the country’s average dayaheadprices higher than in all its neighbouring markets for most of theyear, the country’s transmission system operator PSE said January 14.The average price of green certificates, used to support existingrenewable energy installations, dropped 0.3% to Zloty 149.59/MWh onJanuary 23. The long awaited publication of the country’s draftOffshore Wind Act on January 15 was welcomed by the market, whichenvisaged support to start the construction of 9.6 GW of capacity by2027, a significantly higher amount than the 7.99 GW forecast by 2040in the government’s draft energy policy.
