PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-acting friction stir spot joint method capable of reducing an edge distance (ED) while suppressing the reduction of the shear strength of a joint structure.;SOLUTION: Provided is a friction stir spot joint using a pin member and a shoulder member as a rotary tool, configured so that when constituent elements of a joint target workpiece 60 (constituted by, for example, a first plate material 61 and a second plate material 62) are joined together at a position closest to an edge part 61a of the joint target workpiece 60, an edge contact member 13 is brought into contact with the edge part 61a so as to suppress a deformation in the edge part 61a.
