CenterPoint selects Itron for new meters as it files smart grid plan with Texas PUC

Texas continues to be a center of smart grid activity for utilities, as Houston-based CenterPoint Energy now has signed an agreement with metering manufacturer Itron to use Itron's meters as part of its advanced metering and smart grid initiative. Subject to approval by the Texas Public Utility Commission, CenterPoint plans to buy up to 2 million meters from Itron if the utility moves to a full deployment of advanced meters across its territory, Itron said last week. The utility filed its plan with the PUC earlier this month, Itron said.
