Tucson Electric, stakeholders file rate case settlement agreement

Tucson Electric Power, regulatory staff and key stakeholders last week filed an agreement that settles a long-running dispute on how the utility's rates should be set. Since 2005, TEP, a UniSource Energy subsidiary, has been asking the ACC for clarity on what happens to its rates after a previous settlement agreement expires at the end of 2008. In July, TEP proposed three rate options that would lead to a rate hike of $117 million, or 14.9%, to $181 million, or 23%, depending on the approach selected (EUW, 9 July '07, 15). Under the latest agreement filed May 29 with the Arizona Corporation Commission, TEP will get a 6%, or roughly $47 million rate increase and a fuel clause. Base rates will be frozen through 2012.
