Consumer Advocates Fight Pse&g Request For Incentives On Project It Is Doing With Pepco

Maryland electricity regulators and consumer advocates from four states are asking federal energy regulators not to approve Public Service Electric & Gas' request for extra profits for its portion of a $1 billion transmission project. PSE&G on November 5 applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the incentives, which would increase transmission rates for customers of PSE&G's New Jersey portion of the Mid Atlantic Power Pathway. FERC already approved similar incentives for Pepco Holdings, which is co-developing the MAPP project with PSE&G. The Maryland Public Service Commission, as well as state consumer advocates from Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and West Virginia last week asked FERC not to grant the extra incentives. They want a hearing to establish incentives they say are more appropriate (Docket No. ER09-249). The MAPP is a planned 230-mile transmission line that would originate at Dominion Virginia Power's Possum Point substation in Virginia, cross the Potomac River into Maryland, then go under the Chesapeake Bay and finally into New Jersey after crossing the Delmarva Peninsula. It is due to be brought into service in 2013.
