JCB's latest 20 tonne tracked excavator is said to be the manufacturer's most advanced in its class to date, with a host of driver friendly features, but what does the end user think? Plant & Civil Engineer's David Stokes has been finding out.Lowry Construction, a well-established family business based in Castlederg, didn't need much convincing when the opportunity arose to acquire the latest next generation JCB 220X tracked excavator; they already had an older model which proved to be a reliable and versatile workhorse for the contractor. Over the years, the company has successfully completed an impressive portfolio of major contracts including social housing schemes, school projects including new build, refurbishment and extensions, office refurbishment works, heritage works including the refurbishment of listed buildings, sheltered accommodation, construction of commercial premises as well as private dwellings and minor extension works. Once a competitive package was agreed with dealers JCB Dennison, it wasn't long before the new machine was put to work, earning its keep on a prestigious private housing development in Scotstown in County Monaghan.
