HDD Solves Pipeline Installation Dilemma For Pemex

Mears Group, Inc.'s MearsMex office in San Pedro-Nuevo Leon, Mexico recently com-pleted a horizontal directional drilling project for Pemex that took an already unique trenchless construction technique to new limits. The completed project provided two 8-inch diameter steel pipelines between Pemex's existing Campo III and Campo V storage facilities in the city of Poza Rico in the state of Veracruz. MearsMex manager Tomas Iglesias said the length, location and depth of the trench-less bores on the project made the job especially challenging. He was referring to two directional bores with distances of 2,627 feet and 5,338 feet, respectively. The challenge of the location is because the Campo field's storage facilities are located in the middle of Poza Rico, a town that grew up in, and around, a Pemex oil field.
