Pipeline operators spend millions on cathodic protection systems for their pipelines.rnIn many cases the same owners specify corrosion coatings which can block the protective CP currents from reaching the surface of the pipeline should the coating adhesion fail, seriously limiting CP effectiveness.In spite of publication of dozens of technical papers since the mid 1980's which define, prove, and discuss the problem of CP shielding, Polyguard estimates that the majority of cathodically protected pipelines worldwide have corrosion coatings which shield CP if the coating adhesion fails (disbonds).
