Visy Paper's splicing problem gets thin solution

Visy Paper's mill in Menominee, Mich., was struggling with an ongoing problem with the repulpable tapes it used to make splices on its paperboard rolls. As a mill committed to producing and delivering world-class products and reducing costs and waste, this was unacceptable for Visy Paper. The mill—a subsidiary of Pratt Industries that produces about 165,000 tons per year of 100 percent recycled linerboard and tubestock—found that its largest customer was running into problems with splice failures and inconsistency in runnability.
