Comment on 'Plasma Modulation of Harmonic Emission Spectra from Laser-Plasma Interactions'

In their Letter [1], Boyd and Ondarza-Rovira present a numerical investigation of high harmonic generation from solid targets in a limited parameter space and correlate the presence of modulations in the harmonic spectrum to the peak density of the plasma slab. They claim that the effect detailed in their computational investigation has been observed in previous publications containing experimental observations, particularly Watts et al. [2]. In doing so they inaccurately represent the previously published experimental data, and their discussion of the phenomenon of high harmonic generation gives an inaccurate representation of the current state of theoretical understanding in the field.
