BC Ferries strikes contract for first-ever cable ferry

British Columbia Ferry Services has awarded Seaspan's Vancouver Shipyards a CA$15 million (US$13.6 million) contract for the construction of the ship operator's first-ever cable ferry to service the Buckley Bay-Denman Island route. Seaspan won the contract against two other shortlisted shipyards: another in Vancouver, Canada and one in Seattle, USA. Bids were received in late October 2013 after a request for proposals. Key highlights of the Seaspan contract include a fixed-price, a guaranteed delivery date and milestone installation payments secured by a refund guarantee.
