When it comes to packaging in the pharmaceutical sector, it's not all about the aesthetics; the design needs to do a bit more than grabbing the consumer's eye. Typically, packs need to assist the patient to take the correct dosage of medicine and, if one set of statistics are anything to go by, packaging and labelling is of utmost importance to the wellbeing of patients. The National Patient Safety Authority (NPSA) estimates that there are 900,000 recorded adverse events in the NHS every year. Approximately a third of these are medication and dispensing errors caused by confusion over packaging and labelling instructions.
