Unite-BPIF talks reach stalemate

Talks over a pay agreement for the carton sector between the British Printing Industries Federation and union Unite broke down last month.rnThe National Agreement would have affected carton converters and printers, excluding the corrugated sector, and was planned to come into force in April.rnUnite told the BPIF that it was unable to accept any settlement below £5 per week, but the BPIF offered just £1.84 per week.rnBPIF corporate affairs director Andrew Brown said; "The industry is facing extreme difficulties and uncertainty in relation to the period ahead, with the vast majority of our members unable to afford any increase in wages this year."
