Board mills across Scandinavia have cut production during January as they battle to conserve cash through the credit crunch.rnStora Enso revealed that it was planning as many as 5,000 temporary lay-offs in Finland, around half of its workforce in the country, while Powerfiute closed a mill for two weeks at the end of the month.rnPowerfiute, the corrugated manufacturer, said a quiet Christmas period stopped production at its Savon Sellu mill in central Finland. It temporarily laid off the majority of the workforce without pay, although in a statement it said that staff would be eligible to receive state assistance.
