Besonderheiten grosser Maschinentransformatoren am Beispiel des 3-Schluchten-Wasserkraftwerks in China

Large GUS-transformers with a nameplate power beyond 500 MVA need a lot of attention during the design phase because of various limitations like transport dimensions and weight, manufacturing facilities, space on site, allowable temperatures, technical requirements from the specification and so on. Additionally there are the inherent design tasks for large transformers as electrical, thermal and mechanical stresses near to technical limitations. At the example of an 840 MVA transformer for the hydro power station Three Gorges some of the technical problems and their solution will be discussed in more detail.
