摘要

What caused a recent job-related amputation, and how can you avoid such tragic consequences at your workplace? The incident took place at an Illinois company that fabricates shipping containers. A 45-year-old employee lost part of three fingers when his left hand caught in a table saw. OSHA Area Director Thomas Bielema said that if the employer had installed machine guards to prevent the worker's hand from contacting the saw, the worker would have not suffered the injury. Bielema added. "The injury could permanently affect this man's ability to earn a living." The employer was cited and fined for a willful violation.
