Each day, more than 2,000 American workers suffer an eye injury, and more than a million have lost some sight due to an eye injury. Beyond the human cost, eye injuries result in more than $300 million in lost time, medical expenses, and workers' compensation. Prevent Blindness America estimates that 90 percent of workplace eye injuries could be avoided with proper use of safety eyewear. OSHA's eye and face protection standard requires that employers "ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids, or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation."
