Judging the success of the Global Programme on Health Promotion Effectiveness

The Global Programme on Health Promotion Effectiveness (GPHPE) is a broad, worldwide project to assess the state of the art of health promotion effectiveness with particular attention to which health promotion initiatives, projects, and programmes are or have been effective. As such, it may be conceived as an evaluation of evaluations. Stylistically and conceptually it fits into a family of such efforts as the Cochrane Collaboration, the DHHS/CDC Guide to Community Preventive Services, the WHO/EURO project on Evaluation in Health Promotion, and the IUHPE Report on Health Promotion Effectiveness for the European Commission. It is part of a well-established practice in science to assess, from time to time, the accumulated knowledge base of a field and examine its efficacy.
