An inspirational conference

The 'Closing the gap in a generation' conference held in London on 6-7 November 2008 was a powerful demonstration of the enthusiasm and purpose for tackling the social determinants of health and reducing health inequalities. Almost 500 delegates drawn from across the globe made common cause for action. The many dimensions of the challenge were considered against the findings of the WHO Commission report (1) - the social, economic and environmental challenges, the challenge of human rights - but the emphasis during the two days was on the possibility of action.
