The system (1) has a respirator (11) connected with an ex-vivo rabbit lung (13) over an inspiration canal and an expiration canal. A nebulizer e.g. liquid aerosol nebulizer (12), is provided in the inspiration canal for nebulizing an inhalable material e.g. liquid aerosol. A controller (17) attached with the nebulizer operates the nebulizer only at beginning or during an inspiration phase and stops the nebulizer during termination of the inspiration phase. A pressure sensor (18) is arranged in the inspiration canal between the respirator and the nebulizer, and connected with the controller. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for application of an inhalable material in an animal lung (2) a method for operating a device for application of an inhalable material in an animal lung.
