Lumenisity, Ciena demonstrate 45×400G coherent channels over 1000 km of hollowcore fiber cable

The companies say their work indicates that hollowcore fiber cable can be used for high-bandwidth, long-reach applications such as data center interconnect Lumenisity Ltd. and Ciena announced during OFC 2021 that they had partnered to demonstrate transmission of 45 wavelengths, each at 400G, over 1000 km of hollowcore fiber cable, among other results. The demonstration paired Lumenisity's CoreSmart hollowcore cable with Ciena's WaveLogic 5 Extreme and Nano coherent optical engines, with the transmission occurring in a recirculating loop. The companies say their work indicates that hollowcore fiber cable can be used for high-bandwidth, long-reach applications such as data center interconnect (DCI) in addition to edge and 5G xHaul applications Lumenisity had previously cited.
