Suction roller, for a fiber web production or finishing machine, has passage channels through the roller mantle with separate and coherent channel sections structured to reduce noise emissions during roller rotation
The suction roller in a machine for the production and/or finishing of fiber webs, e.g. of paper or cardboard and the like, has a perforated roller mantle (12) with an array of passage channels (18) between the outer (16) and inner (14) sides of the mantle. At least some of the passage channels are formed by coherent channel sections (22,24) which differ in their free cross section surfaces and/or their passage. The suction roller, with passage channels through the mantle, has some channel sections where a countersunk outer section (22) leads into an inner channel section (24). The array of mantle passage channels has single passages with a countersunk entry into each at the outer mantle surface, with a constant cross section over their axial length. The transit between the countersunk channel section is a step into the straight passage section. The cross section of the countersunk channel section decreases steadily at the transit or over its length and by a constant value. The countersinking is formed by radial drillings. The countersunk channel sections can differ from each other in terms of their passage, their cross section shape and/or depth. Each of two different passage channel sections can come together at least at one common point. The outer passage channel section opens into the inner channel section, which can be drillings in a V-shaped array. Several passage channel sections can be in a bundle, to meet or intersect at a common point to form single channels.
