LADIS'14: 8th Workshop on Large-Scale Distributed Systems and Middleware

Large-scale computing remains a fundamental and important research topic. As enterprises migrate increasingly to the cloud and the design of data centers evolves for both hardware and software, there are new issues to be investigated and new experience that indicate that previously proposed principles need to be revisited. LADIS has been an important venue for such discussions and the 2014 edition was no different. The format we chose, of no co-location and omitting proceedings, worked very well. Being a standalone workshop builds a sense of community, which is important for this series of workshops going forward. Skipping the proceedings led to more interesting and less formal presentations, and consequently made the sessions and coffee break discussions more interactive. Overall, we, the organizers, are pleased with the outcome and we would like to thank all of the participants, presenters, student volunteers, and sponsors who contributed to the success of LADIS 2014. We hope that future editions of LADIS will keep this level of interest and excitement.
