HEATED DISCUSSIONS about Plan S and Chinese publishing policies and practices dominated this year's Academic Publishing in Europe (APE; ape 2019.eu) conference, held in Berlin, Jan. 15-16. Interspersed with those discussions were calm, un-controversial presentations detailing publishing projects, introductions to new companies in the publishing arena, and a heartfelt review of Karen Hunter's life and legacy.
